POSITION:   Lead Art teacher (Part-time position) Kindergarten and 1st grades
QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's degree in Education required
  2. Master's degree desirable
  3. New York State Certification required
  4. Three years of teaching experience preferred
  5. Ability to work collaboratively and an interest in an interdisciplinary approach to education

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

WORK WITH CHILDREN
The teacher is responsible for teaching a group of children in Art.  The teacher is responsible to meet the needs of the entire group as well as individual children. The ability to attend to the social/emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child is his/her primary responsibility. An ability to work with some children that are English Language 
Learners and have special education needs will be important.

Work with Environment and Materials. The teacher is responsible for designing, organizing and delivering Art curriculum. An ability to create and prepare materials that serve the Art curriculum is essential.

Curriculum Development. The teacher is responsible for developing curriculum in areas based on the New York State standards and children's developmental capacities and needs. A current understanding of Project Based Learning with the integration of other subject areas such as ELA will be important.

WORK WITH ADULTS

Staff. An interest in his/her own professional growth is expected. Each teacher meets monthly with their curriculum coordinator and participates in weekly grade level meetings and weekly staff meetings after school. As part of a diagnostic team, teachers work with specialists, nurses, and social workers, and meet with parents and other family members as necessary. 

Parents. Teachers are required to be available for meetings and conferences when needed. Teachers and parents work together to increase each other's knowledge of the children. There will be at least one written comprehensive report on children each year.

POSITION:     Associate Teacher for Kindergarten and 1st grades (2 positions)
QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's degree
  2. Enrolled or completed Master's degree desirable
  3. New York City Teacher Assistant certification required
  4. Previous work with children preferred
  5. Ability to work collaboratively and an interest in an interdisciplinary approach to education

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with Children
The Associate Teacher is responsible for teaching a group of children in all subject areas and planning to meet the needs of the entire group as well as individual children. Enabling the social/emotional, physical, and intellectual development of each child is the teacher’s primary responsibility. A willingness to work with some children that are English Language Learners and have special education needs will be important.

Work with Environment and Materials
The teacher is responsible for designing, organizing, and maintaining a materials-based classroom that reflects the curriculum and current work of the children. The teacher will create and prepare materials that serve the curriculum.
 

Curriculum Development
The teacher is responsible for developing curriculum in all areas based on the New York State standards and children's developmental capacities and needs. A current understanding of literacy learning, mathematics, and interdisciplinary curriculum development in social studies, science, and the arts will be important. A multicultural understanding must be reflected in the curriculum developed for children. Special emphasis is placed on social studies as the core of classroom life and learning. 

Work with Adults
Staff-  An interest in his/her own professional growth is expected. Each teacher participates in weekly grade level meetings and weekly staff meetings after school. As part of a diagnostic team, teachers work with specialists, nurses, and social workers and meet with parents and other family members as necessary.

Parents- Teachers are required to meet with parents twice yearly for individual conferences and to be available for additional conferences where needed. Teachers and parents work together to increase each other's knowledge of the children. There will be two written comprehensive reports on children each year and Associate Teachers will have a role in some of the writing of these reports.

As cooperating practitioners for other teachers who work in their classrooms, teachers plan cooperatively with other adults and hold weekly supervisory meetings.

Follow up email and phone calls may be necessary to fully inform families how their child is performing at school. Teachers and parents work together to increase each other's knowledge of the children. There will be two written comprehensive reports on children each year.

Advisory- Teachers in Middle School division work with small groups of children as part of advisory for the entire year.  These groups meet approximately three times a week usually in the mornings.  All teachers are part of the advisory team and expected to deliver curriculum supplied by the school as well as conduct parent-teacher conferences that are student-led twice a year.

The ability to attend to the social/emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child is his/her primary responsibility. An ability to work with some children that are English Language Learners and have special education needs will be important.

Work with Environment and Materials
The teacher is responsible for designing, organizing and delivering Music curriculum including vocal and instrument instruction. An ability to create and prepare materials that serve the Music curriculum is essential.

Curriculum Development
The teacher is responsible for developing curriculum in areas based on the New York State standards and children's developmental capacities and needs. A current understanding of Project Based Learning with 
the integration of other subject areas such as ELA will be important.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with Children
The teacher is responsible for teaching a group of children in physical education, health, and recess.  The teacher is responsible to meet the needs of the entire group as well as individual children. The ability to attend to the social/emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child is his/her primary responsibility. An ability to work with some children that are English Language Learners and have special education needs will be important.

Work with Environment and Materials
The teacher is responsible for designing, organizing and maintaining the gym and recess yard and equipment. An ability to create and prepare materials that serve the Health curriculum is essential.

Curriculum Development
The teacher is responsible for developing curriculum in all areas based on the New York State standards and children's developmental capacities and needs. A current understanding of physical education, as well as health & wellness, will be important.

WORK WITH ADULTS

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with Children
The Teacher Aide is responsible for working with a group of children for lunch and recess periods to meet the needs of the entire group as well as individual children. S/he will also work in After School from 4-6 p.m. under the guidance of the After School Coordinator.  The Aide must keep the social/emotional, physical, and intellectual development of each child is as one of their primary responsibilities. A willingness to work with some children that are English Language Learners and have special education needs will be important.

Work with Environment and Materials
The Teacher Aide is responsible for organizing and helping to maintain order and discipline in the lunch and recess areas.  In addition, s/he will prepare materials that serve the curriculum for After School.

Work With Adults
Staff
An interest in his/her own professional growth is expected. The Teacher Aide will participate in meetings and some weekly staff meetings after school. As part of a teaching team, s/he will with staff members that have lunch and recess duties as well as the staff that works in After School.
