POSITION: Lead Teacher for Math/Science 5th and 6th grades

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's degree
  2. Master's degree desirable
  3. New York State Certification required
  4. Three years of teaching experience preferred
  5. Ability to work collaboratively and an interest in an interdisciplinary approach to education

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with Children
The classroom teacher is responsible for teaching a group of children in Math and Science, planning to meet the needs of the entire group as well as individual children. The ability to attend to the social/emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child is his/her primary responsibility. An ability to work with some children that are English Language Learners and have special education needs will be important.

Work with Environment and Materials. The teacher is responsible for designing, organizing and maintaining a materials-based classroom that reflects the curriculum and current work of the children. An ability to create and prepare materials that serve the curriculum is essential.

Curriculum Development. The teacher is responsible for developing curriculum in all areas based on the New York State standards and children's developmental capacities and needs. A current understanding of mathematics and science as well as an interdisciplinary curriculum development that ensures that Project Based Learning takes place is important. A multicultural understanding must be reflected in the curriculum developed for children. 

WORK WITH ADULTS

Staff An interest in his/her own professional growth is expected. Each teacher meets weekly with their curriculum coordinator and participates in weekly grade level meetings and weekly staff meetings after school. As part of a diagnostic team, teachers work with specialists, nurse, social worker and meet with parents and other family members as necessary.

Parents- Teachers are expected to meet with parents for individual conferences as needed. Follow up email and phone calls may be necessary to fully inform families how their child is performing at school. Teachers and parents work together to increase each other's knowledge of the children. There will be two written comprehensive reports on children each year.

Advisory- Teachers in Middle School division work with small groups of children as part of advisory for the entire year.  These groups meet approximately three times a week usually in the mornings.  All teachers are part of the advisory team and expected to deliver curriculum supplied by the school as well as conduct parent-teacher conferences that are student-led twice a year.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience

POSITION:  Aide for Library/Tech (2019-2020 school year) 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma. Associate or college degree, preferable

  2. Experience working with children, in a classroom setting preferable

  3. Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  4. Able to lift up to 20 pounds.

  5. Experience working with Google Apps, Microsoft Office, highly desirable


FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with Children: The aide is responsible for the circulation and shelving of library materials. Responsible for entering new materials into the online catalog. The aide will assist students in searching for materials in the library using the online catalog and finding information using online databases. The aide will lead read-to’s with lower grades.


Curriculum Development: The aide will become familiar with the library collection and online resources to assist staff and students. The aide will also keep books and other materials in good condition for circulation, weeding any materials not acceptable.


Work with Environment and Materials: Library: The aide is responsible for maintaining a clean circulation area and organized shelves. Will keep classroom displays up-to-date with student work and appropriate décor.
Technology: Assist in basic troubleshooting of computers, printers and projector systems. Responsible for keeping a clean and organized computer lab area and storage area. Assist in maintaining, troubleshooting, and updating iPads and Chromebooks.

Scan weekly assessments for ELA and math using QuickKey for 2nd-4th grades.

Assist in maintaining the school website

Work with Staff: An interest in his/her own professional growth is expected. Each staff member meets regularly with his/her supervisor and participates in a weekly staff meeting after school. Staff is expected to collaborate, discuss and work to make children’s experience in the school successful.
